You want to know the true poison that a community swallows when it sells something like a stadium name? The chance to be a part of something timeless. When I visited Candlestick Park years ago, it gave me a charge recalling my grandfather’s stories of visiting San Francisco and seeing a Giants game - at Candlestick Park. The name of the ballpark served as a connection between generations. That won’t happen much anymore. The suits in charge sold that connection in order to pocket a few extra dollars.
When a part of your soul is named for a product, then a part of your soul dies when that product goes out of fashion. And a ballpark is HUGE part of a community’s soul.
There’s no possible way to prostitute yourself and then somehow make it less obvious, Mr. Craft. The answer is saying that enough is enough, and realizing that you only need so much money.

We still call it “Candlestick Park…” but I know what you mean. What do we call the new baseball place? I don’t even know.
