I heard a few comments here and there about how it’s just a game, how it’s just a bunch of guys hitting a ball with a stick, and how we have more important things to think about.

You know, I don’t buy that. People who are passionate about something trivial or obscure are the people I want to surround myself with. When we lose ourselves in something we love, we find the things that make us better people. It might be baseball, it might be music, or it might be books. Whatever our specific it might be, those few hours of complete immersion are what makes it possible for some of us to wake up and tackle the serious stuff.

And I bet you dollars to doughnuts that it will be the passionate people, not the serious ones, that figure out the best answers to whatever serious problem we face. Every single time.

I’m a Red Sox fan, sure enough, but most of all I’m a baseball fan. Last night was epic. In the very best sense of the word.
